Orica is a global leader in blasting solutions and advanced technologies that serves mining, civil, and infrastructure operators across more than 100 countries. The company’s 19-person communications team is responsible for providing a consistent narrative across a wide range of functions, from investor relations and marketing to internal and external communications. Operating in a capital-intensive, highly regulated industry, the team requires trusted intelligence with full source traceability in order to generate insights they can stand behind in investor, executive, and board-level communications.

Delphine Cassidy, Chief Communications Officer, leads this team with a mandate to deliver clear, credible, and timely communication to a diverse set of global stakeholders. The communications function at Orica started off as investor relations, but consolidated under Delphine once stakeholders realized that “it’s the same message, just different audiences.

Orica operates in an environment of constant, compounding change. Delphine’s team must be able to quickly separate signal from noise while navigating a complex macro and policy landscape marked by geopolitical shifts, energy volatility, supply chain pressures, tariff uncertainty, and regulatory change. All the while, the team must deliver a consistent, verifiable narrative to employees, customers, suppliers, and investors.

Compressing time to decision is important for the team, but in this challenging environment, speed alone isn’t enough. All insights must be fully sourced and defensible, as unsourced or generic AI outputs introduce risk in regulated, investor-facing communications.

Earnings Season Marks a Turning Point

An earnings-release anecdote crystallized the need for Orica to uplevel its market intelligence. After a sell-side analyst flagged repetitive phrasing in an earnings release, the team learned that the analyst had been using AlphaSense to evaluate Orica’s external communications. That realization made it clear: If investors were using AlphaSense to analyze Orica, the company needed AlphaSense to prepare and respond just as effectively. AlphaSense gave Orica the ability to see its own narrative exactly as the market does, all while analyzing language, tone, and sentiment to anticipate how disclosures would be interpreted before results landed.

We released information on the stock exchange. And very quickly, one of the sell-side analysts told me that we had used a particular term 17 times in the release.
